The SBA Office of Advocacy published a report in March 2023 that revealed the following:
  • There are 33,185,550 small businesses in the United States including 27,104,006 considered “non employer firms” and 6,081,544 considered “employer firms”.
  • There are 20,868 large businesses.

This report also described the demographics of small business in the United States.

Federal government purchases are grouped into classification codes that make it easier to analyze trends and report procurement transactions. These classification codes include the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) and the government’s Product/Service Codes (PSC). Each classification system measures economic activity within the market.
